Has Elijah Come?
August 5, 2003
(For printable version click here.)
We come before You this morning to profess our dire need for Your presence. There is no strength in our flesh to sustain us in this hour. So, Father, we are requesting of You that You breathe within our soul, that You might bring forth living water. Father, water that is convenient for us to bring forth the reality of Your presence. I come against every devouring spirit, every spirit of contention that would contend with the presence of God. I come, Father, not in my own strength or my own might, but I come with the Blood of Jesus Christ, the Blood of Yeshua, hallelujah, that has broke the bands of hell, that has loosed the captives, that has brought Satan’s throne down. It is with that Blood that I come this morning and ask for Your will to be done. In Jesus’ name, amen
Hallelujah. There is a word on my heart. God is pressing me with a thought and before I get into what we were talking about last night, I feel like I need to bring that forth. It’s not what I believe, but what God is speaking to me. We have crossed over a line in the time frame of God. What that means is that there has been, for lack of a better term, a dispensation of grace. In that time frame of grace, God has brought to you and I a particular Word, and if we have cleaved to that Word, then the power that was in the Word would do what the Scripture said it was doing and what that is, is working mightily within us. Oftentimes, it is without our cognizant awareness, but, nevertheless, it is working within the framework of our soul. Its work has been of a preparatory nature, even as the Word that Jesus spoke about John the Baptist. He was not talking about a man, per se. He was talking about a Word that was deposited in the framework of a man called John, and the cry or the nature of the Word was to prepare the way of the Lord. The Bible says that John, and the Word that John bore, must come before the Messiah. We have not been cognizant of the spirit of John in the message we have heard and we have titled as Sonship. Its purpose was to prepare us for a time, to make us ready for an event, because we cannot possibly humanly comprehend the pressure and the stress of what the Bible calls “the day of the Lord.” It’s not only the day of the Lord, but it’s also the day of Satan, when Satan comes to his fullness in a corporate manifestation of wickedness and diabolical thinking. I don’t believe there are words that can be uttered or that I can use for you today that can express to you the absolute blackness of the darkness that is not only arising in the world, but is also arising within the midst of us. I am saying this because there is a pressure upon me in the Spirit, that we have come, as it were, to a line of demarcation and God is pulling off the restraint, and the only restraint that God is going to have in the land is the restraint of those who have grasped hold of the Word and who have allowed that Word to work within them. Hallelujah.
There is a scripture I want to read. Jeremiah 12:5,If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with the horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan? 6 For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee: yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee. If I were to liken the sense of the things that God is speaking to me this morning, I would liken it unto the household of Israel as they were standing on the banks of Jordan and the Word of God was going out throughout the camp, “The time has come that every man’s sword must be whetted.” Every man’s armor must have to have been seen to that it was in proper condition. They had come to a line of demarcation. The training was over! There was now no second chance! It was a fight, live or die. Hallelujah. I believe that you and I have come to such a place in time, and have come to such a position in the Lord with regard to the wickedness that God is allowing to be loosed upon the land. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. In times past, you have experienced the enemy coming into your midst, and you have stood by and watched the rending and the tearing, and though there has been a ringing of hands, and even the lament of your soul, there has been a sense of hopelessness that you have felt in the demonstration of power to reverse the thing that was happening. In all that time, you had deposited within you, the framework of the Word that you have been hearing, the totality of God. And yet, God allowed Himself to be restrained by your sense of helplessness. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. We have treated the Word of God in a frivolous manner. We have not allowed the Spirit of God to bring us to a place where the reality of the eternal is the focus of our attention. The scribes and the Pharisees, the religious order of the day, came to Jesus Christ and they asked Him, “What is the greatest commandment?” and He said, “The greatest commandment is to love the Lord thy God, to love Him, Yahweh, with all of your might, all of your soul, all of your strength.”(Matthew 22:36, 38) We have been in violation of that living principle and commandment! We have allowed life to take a preeminent position! It has not been the theology of God being foremost and absolute in our thoughts, in our minds. But our thought has been that of self-preservation. There is a scripture in the Word that says that you and I are not to labor for the meat that perisheth (John 6:27), but we are to labor for that which is eternal! Hallelujah. Hallelujah. The time of the coming forth of the Sons of God is a time of sackcloth, a time of ashes. It means it’s a time of repentance! I came into the Word of God on the basis of my repentance; repentance of my position of self-interest; repentance of my position of self-preservation. Hallelujah. And this Word of Sonship. We are going to be confronted with our position of self-interest. The preservation of our position of existence. The preservation of our place of living. If we do not come to grips with the reality of the sin that dwelleth within us, we will miss the calling!! We will miss the election!! We will miss the position!! The position is for those who completely and totally empty themselves before God. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. The scripture that Christ quoted that, to me, exemplifies this thought is the scripture that says when the prince of this world cometh he finds nothing within me (John 14:30). He had completely divested himself of his humanity. He has completely divested himself of self-interest. I don’t know that I can even comprehend a church and the power that would lie within the framework of the church that had divested themselves of self-interest. We have an example of it in the scriptures, but unless the Spirit brings a realizing or a verification to our hearts, it’s all words on paper! It says that the church had all things in common. There was no position or place of claim. You know, it’s been tried over and over again in the natural realm, only to fall to the ground in dejection and shame and degradation. Instead of being an example of Godliness and righteousness, it turned into a hellhole of sin and fornication and greed and lust of all kinds. But yet, but yet, the reality of truth is recorded in the scripture! It is recorded for a purpose. It was preserved. Can you imagine the blood of men that covers the pages of the Word of God for the sake of preservation, that you and I might read it and understand it, not in the sense of historical information, or even that it might impress us, but this is a road map. There should be a striving, that you and I are striving together for the bringing forth of a manifestation of the nature of God on a natural plain. It is one thing for you or I to demonstrate with our mouths the position of our thought or our doctrine. God is not after verbal professions. God is after a demonstration, an actuality, a manifestation of the reality of God in the midst of humanity. Hallelujah. There has not been a demonstration of that aspect of God since the very beginning. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. In John the 17th chapter, when Jesus prayed for the disciples, He was also praying for the church. He said that the world might know the reality of the Word that He had given unto them, because there was a presence in the Word that had an ability to bring forth in the absolute darkness of man’s nature, in the midst of sensuality and diabolical thought. Loose! There was a power that was in the Word that could bring forth the reality of a righteous God, “that they might know that you, Father, and I are one by the demonstration of the oneness that is within them.” Oneness requires a setting aside of one’s position of personal survival. Hallelujah.
If Paul were here, and I’m just talking figuratively here, but if he were in the midst of the church today, the words that he uttered to the Corinthian church would be just as apropos, when he said, “Thou fool…”(1 Corinthians 15:36)You are a fool; you are a fool if you think that you can come into this thing on a part-way basis! We have been busy living Christianity like it was a part time job! Hallelujah. We have been busy practicing Christianity as though it were a non-essential item. Loose! Hallelujah! We are coming to the time frame and, yea, we have even crossed over into that frame of time when your part-time-ness, my part-time-ness, will not be sufficient to sustain or to bring and give us the peace and security that our soul desires! For we have moved out of the realm of the dispensation of grace where God has winked at our foolishness and He has covered our position of transgression, in the hope that, as time went on, and as you got closer to the place of demarcation, the church would shake itself from the dust, would rise up in the strength, in the VITALITY of loving God! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God has put within our grasp the keys with regard to the kingdom of God. When He spoke that Word to Peter and the man-church corrupted it and built the church of Peter, it was not intended for that purpose. It was a door that God had opened in the heavenlies that was saying, “Now I have put at the disposal of humanity the ability to bind hell and to loose heaven.” We thought it was in words…
We thought the speaking forth of scripture, we thought that it was the presentation of the Word. We thought that it was coming to some sort of intellectual understanding of the thought of God, and their thinking was not correct! There was an appropriation that God desired that that Word might be made flesh and that it would rise up the midst of your and my darkness and begin to broadcast the message that GOD IS SUPREME! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! We have seen individuals that are recorded in the Bible who have had this reality. Hallelujah. And even in death, even in death, because they were individuals born out of due season! Come on! They were born out of due season, having the reality of the Kingdom, having the preeminence of Christ, having the vision to see into the realm of heavenlies, even as Christ spoke unto His disciples, Hallelujah! “I go that I might prepare a place for thee, that where I am you might be also!”(John 14:2) I believe, I BELIEVE that they had an understanding and they subjected themselves to death in the hopes of a better resurrection! Hallelujah! We now sit on the verge; we now stand on the threshold of time when all the fullness of God is being poured out into the church. But we have a misunderstanding. We believe that there is going to be no effort required on our part in order to achieve the end result of becoming a Son of God. Loose! Hallelujah! Devil is coming into your homes. Devil is coming in to claim the right of inheritance in your homes. Your children have been stamped with the stamp of hell. Devil is coming into your homes! Hallelujah! Jesus said that in the last days children would rise up against their parents.(Mark 13:12) Hallelujah! And that betrayal would come, not in and about the world that is around you, but it would come within the fabric and the framework of your home! Daughter rising against mother, father against son. Hallelujah! Brother against sister, sister against brother. Death and desolation! What are you going to do about the problem?! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! There was a lament that was lamented by David when Abner was slain. He said, “Oh, Abner! Abner died as a fool dieth! His hands were not bound!”(2 Samuel 3:33) Hallelujah! And so it is, I believe, with regard to situations and circumstances that are transpiring within the Body of Christ. This one and that one and this one and that one! Oh! They died like a fool! Their hands were not bound and yet they permitted, they allowed the roaring of the lion to intimidate them. They stood by passively, stood by passively as the devil came in to rend and to tear. THIS WORD, THIS WORD OF KINGDOM, THIS WORD OF SONSHIP, REQUIRES ABSOLUTE DEDICATION, REQUIRES ABSOLUTE OBEDIENCE! That is not Burt Asbill’s word. Someone began to bring forth the story of Saul and his resistance to the Word of God, and for his resistance he crossed over a line. In the crossing over of that line, God rejected him. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Brethren! We have been given the accoutrements of warfare! We have been given a Word that is not a historical Word, but it’s a Word of vitality and life, incorporated within it the ability to work within our framework a change! A miraculous, total change that is so incomprehensible with our finite minds, we cannot comprehend the power that is within this Word to do what God said it would do! We, WE, the church, have become smug! We have become self-assured because we have something of a deeper understanding. We know the revelation. We understand the types and the shadows and it has bred within our being a sense of false security. It’s not on the basis of our knowledge. It is on the basis of our experience. The scripture says, tribulation worketh patience (Romans 5:3). We are chicken-hearted when it comes to tribulation. We don’t want to be tribulated. We want to be offended! We want to be vindicated! We want to be justified in our position of rebellion! You cannot be vindicated or justified unless the cry of your heart is, “Jesus! Yeshua! Yeshua, I want to be like You!” How can we theologically think that we can come in with pieces and parts of our humanity, when Jesus divested Himself entirely of Himself and it says that He became sin! How is it that we have the presumption to hold on to some fragment or remnant of our own personality, our own position of personal preference, and think that Jesus, that Yeshua, that Yahweh will utter the words over us, “Well done, well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into thy habitation.”(Matthew 25:23) Loose! Loose! How do we think that we have the ability or the audacity to stand without shame before heaven and before the saints of God when we have wiggled and squirmed, moaned and groaned over the position of our being uncomfortable? Where are the stripes? Hallelujah! Paul said, “I bear, I bear the marks of my Christianity in a physical way!”(Galatians 6:17) Am I better than Paul? Is there some sort of special preference that God is going to give to me because I live in a different era, when the era or the time frame that Paul was living in was not the era of Caesar, but it was the time frame of the coming forth of Jesus Christ?!! He was a man! He was a man that had vision that went beyond his temporal set of circumstance. He allowed God to expend him! Hallelujah! Expend him in his position of pride in nationality. I cannot believe, I cannot believe that he did not deny himself the right of having a family! I cannot believe that he was a man that did not have desire for a family. Yet, he denied himself the privilege. We have the privilege. God has given us the right to have within our framework, within our environment, a husband or a wife and we treat them despicably! We move without sensitivity. Hallelujah! ON THE BASIS OF ONE MAN’S SACRIFICE, JUDGMENT COMES TO OUR HOUSEHOLDS! Hallelujah! We are not dealing with individuals and personalities! I’m talking about the framework of marriage that God calls holy matrimony. Loose! Loose! Marriage under the auspices, not of man, but under the jurisdiction and the direction of God! Do you think that Paul’s sacrifice is not up there before God when we move in a manner that brings shame to him and what he’s done? Hallelujah! There has to come within our framework… My goodness! You know, I’m seeing in the Spirit, I’m seeing houses destroyed. Devil, ripping and tearing, and I’m seeing countless collapse, and I’m seeing people who should know better, who could have done better, standing around, wringing their hands, and saying, “Oh my! Oh my! Isn’t this terrible? Isn’t it atrocious? Oh my!” When they should have been rising up in the Spirit of God. If there is a breakdown in the home in the midst of the fellowship, it is not the burden or the shame of the individuals involved, individually. Not in this church! Not in this church! It is a shame on the corporate structure and the inability of the church to rise up in fasting and prayer to contend with the devil. My goodness. You know, we used to think one day, two day, three days fasting was sufficient. Four days, five days, how about, “Jesus! We will fast and pray, we will press heaven, we will storm heaven, we will press the battle to hell’s gate and we will maintain our position of integrity before You until You move!” Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God is not pleased with the end-time church in how they have handled the Word of God. They come in their position of intellect, even using scripture as a justification for their weakness. Hallelujah! I’m seeing a picture. I’m seeing a child play with a gun. He has no idea the potential of disaster that is in his hand, and he’s playing with his playmates. Hallelujah! He’s playing and he’s clicking the trigger and he’s saying, “Bang! Bang! You’re dead!” Till all of a sudden the hammer connects to a loaded chamber and the bang is real and the destruction is real, and the catastrophe is terrible! Hallelujah! Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
Jesus wants us to begin to understand. In Ephesians, Paul was writing to the spiritual church. Of all the churches in the Bible, it seems as though the Ephesians had something of an understanding above and beyond the rest of the work that was going on. And yet he prayed for them that God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of loving, Paul is talking from personal experience. Hallelujah! No wonder God honored the man in such a way as to allow him to be one of the pillars of the end-time church! Hallelujah. Paul prayed, “That the Father of glory may give unto you the spirit of wisdom. And the revelation of the knowledge of him that the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may understand.”(Ephesians 1:17-18) Hello. That you and I might understand what is the hope of HIS calling! We wanted it to be our calling. Again the words of Paul reverberate throughout my soul,“Thou fool knowest thou not that a seed must fall to the ground and die or it abideth alone.”(John 12:24) The verse says that, “the eyes of our understanding being enlightened that we might know what is the hope of HIS calling and what the riches of glory of HIS inheritance. It is His inheritance that lies within the realm of saints.”(Ephesians 1:17) Hallelujah! Hallelujah.
We must be a people that have prepared ourselves for battle. Hallelujah! You know, I stand up here this morning with a sense of grief in my soul. If you could look on the inside of my soul, you could see the tears of God, I believe. Such a grief for what is coming and the unreadiness of the church, the unpreparedness of the church. I have many in the church whom God has given me. They have been birthed by the Spirit of God unto me. Do you hear me? I’m not talking about just my natural lineage. They are as much mine as though they came out of my own loins! And I see within their lives the unpreparedness, and in my soul there is a cry: “Oh, God! My, God! Let them not die as Abner died!” I do not want to be bleeding or weeping in the day of rejoicing!
I had a vision a number of years ago. In the vision, I’m telling you, it has stayed with me over the years. We had just finished a huge battle. I was weary to the bone, and there was this big sword that I was leaning upon, for it was as though I had no strength to stand any longer on my own. I began to look over the field of battle, and it was in disarray, tangled and trampled and there were bodies laying all over the place and there was blood on the ground. It was as though I was seeing it through a haze of weariness. Then my vision began to clear. I began to look, and I saw this comrade, a brother in arms. I don’t know that I can convey to you the feeling of camaraderie and companionship that you have with one that you go into battle with. You trust him explicitly. You love him as though it were David and Jonathan. I cannot convey to you the sense of grief and loss that I was feeling as I was viewing the field and I was seeing my comrades in arms. Hallelujah. As I would look at this one, it was as though I was being flashed back into a vision and seeing the battle and this one was fighting. Oh! How gloriously he was fighting! He was smiting the enemy. He was wading through a throng of people. There was a joy of the Lord that was on his face. He was smiting the enemy! But there came a situation where he was confronted with three mighty devils. He was fighting them and he was holding his own, but in the midst of the fight one crept up behind him and sliced him, as it were, across the back, bringing him down in battle. Your and my back are to be protected by the church! It’s to be protected by our other comrades in arms. Hallelujah!
In the Roman army, they made no armor provision for the back of a man because they were to fight as a unit. They were trained, they would stand, as it were, in the close combat, back to back, shoulder to shoulder, fighting the enemy. Hallelujah. We are told of the story of Jonathan and his armor bearer. I can see them in the Spirit as they are there and they hear the call of God! Would to God we could be as brave and courageous as they! He said, “If we challenge them and they say come up unto us…”(1 Samuel 14:10) What a fleece to put before God! You’re facing a multitude of hundreds. You’re two puny, little, human beings in the midst of humanity. What other response is an army going to have to such a challenge? What other response? But there was something of the character and the nature of God that was etched upon the consciousness of Jonathan and his armor bearer. And they said, “If it be the will of God and they say for us to come up then we will know that we have been directed by the voice of almighty God.”(1 Samuel 14:10) And they said come up unto us and they rose up. (I Samuel 14:12) I don’t believe they had an elder’s meeting to discuss the consequences or to look at other possible avenues. They had made a decision! They had settled it before God. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! They had settled the issue. Whether I perish I perish, but I am going to see the King. They pressed forward into the midst of the multitude. I believe they were back to back, allowing the enemy to surround them. Sounds a little like our position today. A little light, a little light in the midst of gross darkness! But they stood shoulder to shoulder. Oh, my God! I can hear the cry of the armor bearer, “If I leave this position short of my own life’s blood may I be accursed from God.”(1 Samuel 14:7) Come on! I’m not stretching scripture. I’m not stretching scripture. Paul said, “I would to God that I could be accursed, if the cursing of my position and relationship with God would bring in the household of Israel.”(Romans 9:3) Do you think those were idle, theological conjectures? Do you think that was just a statement that Paul was making so that the church might think that he was religious, a spiritual giant? I believe that Paul meant every particle of it! Because the spirit that was in Paul was the SPIRIT that was in Jonathan and his armor bearer. There was an allegiance, there was a covenant that the armor bearer made unto Jonathan. His life was Jonathan’s life. Jonathan’s life was his life, and he was willing to allow his blood to be spilled. That is not the spirit that is in the Body of Christ!! We bite and devour one another. Hallelujah! We bite and devour. We criticize! We hold up for ridicule those things of brethren. Jonathan and his armor bearer, I believe, is a type and shadow of Christ and His church. Hallelujah!
Turn with me to John. We touched on it last night. Brethren, let me tell you something. If you do not understand the rudimentary rules, if you don’t understand the rudiments, or base elements, of the rules of warfare, YOU WILL BE SMITTEN. Hallelujah! You don’t even need to necessarily have to know them in here sometimes! Hallelujah! It was demonstrated by Elisha when he had received the mantle and as he was walking back to assume his position in the Lord, he rose up with the mantle and he said, “Where? Where? WHERE IS THE GOD OF ELIJAH?!” And he smote the water. He didn’t say, “The God of Elisha.” He said, “The God of Elijah.” He was reiterating a principle and the principle worked!! I have seen sinners resist the devil, rebuke the devil. I have seen sinners utilize the principle in the Bible that says, “If you resist Satan, he will flee from you.” Why? Because there is life in the Word! And that life is designed to work no matter, NO MATTER what the circumstances are! If you think that in the church out there, that organized system of religion, has the presence of God because souls are being saved, you are mistaken! God is saving souls IN SPITE OF the wickedness that is going on in the church! The church is in a position of fornication. They are pursuing after other gods. They are worshipping Tammuz. Hallelujah! They are bringing in all kinds of diabolical ritualism of world carnality. Hallelujah!
We just had an experience of a Pentecostal church favoring, and moving to marry a couple that were in fornication. They approved the fornication! They put a stamp upon the fornication. That means that fornication is in their midst! Hallelujah! The Pentecostal church is a church that has had the outpouring of the Holy Ghost upon it and yet the abomination of desolation is standing up in the midst of the Holy Place. What will it take? What will it take? What will it take for us…? Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
John chapter 1. Hallelujah. I’m going to start at the first verse. 1In the beginning was the Logos and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God. The same was in the beginning… You have to keep in mind the aspect of eternity. God is not only Alpha but He is also Omega. He is the beginning, He is the end. He is in between. He fills all in all. And that which He spoke about the beginning is the thing that He is speaking in the end! The same was in the beginning with YAHWEH. All things were made by him, the logos. Can you understand? Take the “Him” out and put the “logos” in there. Can you understand? It is within the power of the Logos that lies the creativity, the perpetualness of eternity, the essence of life that is able to transform and to bring forth something out of nothing. Hallelujah! 3All things were made by Him (the logos); and without Him (the logos) was not anything made that was made. 4In Him (the logos) was life (the logos), and the life (the logos) was the light of men. All that God is is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent. He is the beginning and the end. That aspect of Him is LIFE, and it says that that life is imparted or impregnated within man. The life, the logos shineth into the darkness, my darkness, your darkness, and my darkness cannot comprehend it, cannot lay hold of it. It says it cannot comprehend it!! But God did not leave us in our position of stupidity and arrogant ignorance. He said there was a man that was sent from God.(John 1:6) Do you know what that means, that he was issued out of God, as a woman receives seed from a man? It has the same meaning, that John was birthed out of the desire of God! I can hear your minds and you’re saying, “How could that be?” Can it be impossible? More impossible for God to form a lump of clay in the ground out of dirt and mud? It’s got iron and calcium. No shape or form of it’s own and yet….. God wanted a son and so He issued out of Himself and He created a man called John! That man was a representation of the ministry of God that God breathed into the earth. Hallelujah!
I’m seeing a picture of the tabernacle. As you enter the gate, it’s not just a door. Jesus said, “I am the door.” He didn’t say, “I am the gate.” He said unto Nicodemus, “If I speak to you of earthly things – being born again, being baptized in the Holy Ghost, a level of earth? – how can it be that you will understand things that pertain to the realm of heaven?” We have danced around with our timbrals and with our harps in the midst of the outer court and we have rejoiced for the pouring out of God’s grace upon us in salvation. “Oh! I’ve been redeemed! I’ve been redeemed! I’ve been redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb!” Hallelujah! Danced around, danced around. Hallelujah! As we have partaken of God’s overshadowing mercy, overshadowing love. Out of God issued forth life and His spirit washed over us, and it lifted us yet a little higher. But if we have not yet come into the realm of heaven, it’s like standing on your tiptoes when you’re still on earth. And we’ve danced around speaking in tongues, prophesying, looking for a word here, looking for a word there, looking, as it were, for healing to our bodies. Danced around! And when God has intervened in His love for us as children, and moved at our behalf, it should have excited us and caused us to stop and question the mysteriousness of the thing that we just experienced! Hallelujah. We’ve continued, as it were, to dance around and rejoice and to praise God for His goodness. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
It says that Moses sought God, not on the basis of His acts, not because of what God could do for him, but he wanted to KNOW God. The acts of God caused within Moses a desire to rise up within his being, and wanted to know the acts-giver. It was like a signpost that was saying YAHWEH, JEHOVAH JIREH, THIS WAY. And he pursued after God!! He said to God, “I WANT TO SEE YOU!” Do you not think that Moses did not know the consequences of seeing God? Moses was a learned man, not only in the aspect of Egyptian knowledge, but he was taught those Jewish concepts that pertain to a God that was so awesome and so fearful that Israel would not even pronounce His name. Do you not think that, if the knowledge was common in the host of Israel of the fearsomeness of God, this man who was their leader did not know that it was at the risk of his own being? We have been somewhat like the children of Israel when God wanted to manifest Himself to them and He gathered them all around the mount and the commandment went up that they were to sanctify themselves. Loose! Loose! Hallelujah! They were to draw nigh unto the mountain and God, in all of His glory, which we cannot began to fathom… They say that the mountain on which God descended, to this day, bears the blackness of the burning! To this day! To demonstrate the intensity and to be a witness in the land of Satan of the presence of God! Do you think that that man did not have the ability to understand that it was at his own peril? Yes, he understood explicitly, and yet he was willing to commit himself to the altar and to offer himself for the sake of the ability to knowGod!
What is our reasonable service? “Therefore, brethren, I, Paul, an ensample of the church, commend to you the office of the priesthood.” Hallelujah! Commend to you, I bequeath to you, that’s a better word. “I bequeath to you the office of the priesthood.” Do you know that it was the priest that was offering himself when he came in before the Lord? Do you know that? If the offering was not acceptable, God did not smite the congregation. He smote the priest. Tradition says that they had a rope around the leg of the priest, because if God smote him, no one else wanted to take the chance to retrieve the body! They wanted to do it from a safe distance. They had the attitude of humanity. Can’t you hear the words of the host of Israel? I can hear them. Not a cry of one man, but it’s a shout in unison. “MOSES! YOU GO UP! YOU GO UP, MOSES, LEST WE DIE!” And so it is with the church in this hour. We want others to go in before God that perchance some of the glory that falls upon them might fall upon us. It’s not by osmosis! This man can go into the presence of God and he can come out wearing God, and no matter how close I get to him, what of God that is upon him is of no benefit to me! Hallelujah! That’s why when the Bible says, “Sanctify yourselves,” it says yourselves! Hallelujah! Sanctify yourselves! It’s an INDIVIDUAL POSITION OF COMMITMENT, and it’s not based on the environment in which you find yourself in. I hear so often, “If she would have done so and so, I would have done so and so,” “If he would have done so and so I would have done so and so…” I’m talking about, “You made me do it. I didn’t want to do it but you made me do it!”
If you think that you have troubles now, they are nothing but a drop in the bucket compared to what has already been loosed. It is time for us… I’ll read one more scripture and then I am going to close. Matthew 24:15, When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place… 16 let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains…
We have a song that says: “Get thee up, be not afraid, O Zion, O Zion, that bringeth glad tidings.” You might not think these tidings are too glad. “Get thee up, be not afraid.” Hallelujah! Matthew 24:16, Let them which be in Judea… Let me tell you that Judea is a type of the end-time church, too. …flee into the mountains: 17 let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house… Elevate your thinking please. We’re not taking about clothes. We’re not talking about Grandma’s cream vase. We are talking about things of the spirit. …take any thing out of his house: 18 neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! Elevate your thinking. It’s not talking about natural seed, not talking about natural children, we’re talking about spiritual reality. 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day: 21 for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. God bless you, in Jesus’ name.
